Marijs is a Professor at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute of Florence, where she teaches the Yoga: Breathing, Meditation, Philosophy course within CAMNES’ religion department. Originally from Belgium, Marijs has lived in the USA, Switzerland, the UK, the Philippines, India, and Kenya since the age of eight. She now calls Florence, Tuscany, home, where she lives with her partner and three children. Fluent in Dutch, English, and French, she is also steadily improving her Italian.
Marijs holds a BA in Development Studies with Economics from the University of Kent (Canterbury, UK) and a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from Boston University, USA. She has worked with various international Non-Governmental Organsations (NGOs), including the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine: International Center for Eye Health, the German International Cooperation (GIZ) in New Delhi, and the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Geneva.
Since 2011, following her parents’ battle with cancer, Marijs shifted her career focus towards healing, both for herself and others. She holds teaching certificates in Kundalini Yoga, Ayurvedic Massage, Gong Practitioner, and Sound Therapy Practitioner.
Marijs believes in the innate capacity of every individual to explore the path of self-healing. She is dedicated to helping people connect with their inner selves to achieve natural balance. Her primary tool for connection is sound, guiding individuals and groups through sound healing experiences. By harnessing sound frequencies, she helps clear energetic blockages and re-harmonize the body, creating a relaxed, hopeful, and rejuvenating environment.
Above all, Marijs is a lifelong learner. Her family continues to inspire and motivate her, teaching her invaluable lessons about love, compassion, and resilience.
