Dr. Sangeeta Laura Biagi is a renowned educator in the field of Nada Yoga (Yoga of Vibration and Sound). She is the Co-Founder, Director and Senior Teacher of Gitananda Nada Yoga International at the International Center for Yoga Education & Research, in Pondicherry. She is an International Visiting Professor at the Institute of Salutogenesis and Complementary Medicine at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth in Tamil Nadu, India, and at the Istituto Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy. Dr. Biagi received a B.A. in Foreign Languages from the University of Siena (summa cum laude), a Master and Ph.D. (doctorate) from the Department of Performance Studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and a Two-Year Advanced Yoga Teacher Diploma at the International Center for Yoga Education and Research at Ananda Ashram, Tamil Nadu, India. Dr. Biagi is a published author and sought-after speaker whose research and practice on the human voice embraces both traditional forms of invocation (prayers, mantras, folk songs) and contemporary methods for self and collective expression (storytelling, choral music medicine, voice improvisation). She has been a professor at New York University, Vassar College and The Theatre School at DePaul University, collaborating with community centers and jails to increase the importance of voice awareness in the process of rehabilitation. Her work has been featured on the TEDx stage (Reimagine Failure: Breathe Belong Believe, 2018) and in the Emmy-Award nominated film, The Girl Inside. Since 2010, Dr Biagi has been a student of Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga in the Parampara (lineage) of Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri under the direct guidance of Puduvai Kalaimamani Puduvai Shakti Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani and her son and lineage holder Puduvai Kalaimamani Yogacharya Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani. In 2013, she received the honorary title of Yogacharini (“she who teaches by example”) after living at Ananda Ashram for three years and being involved in various forms of seva (selfless work) and teachings. In 2013 she joined Dr. Ananda in the musical recording of the double CD album Chanting the Yoga Sutras, a Learning and Meditative Experience and, as a co-author, in the publications of two books on Nada Yoga:Saraswathi’s Pearls: Dialogues on the Yoga of Sound (2013) and Nada Yoga: The Vibratory Essence of the Yoga of Sound (2023). Dr. Bhavanani honored Dr. Sangeeta in 2023 Dr. Sangeeta with the title of “Yoga Thilagam” (“shining light of yoga”) as she was appointed as the International Director of Studies and Research of Gitananda Nada Yoga worldwide. Her book on the Major Arcana of the Tarot, La Voce Arcana, was published by RPLibri in 2021 and her latest album, Nada Yoga, was released in 2024. Dr. Biagi co-teaches online courses and training programs in Nada Yoga with Dr. Bhavanani both in English and Italian, hosts a yearly retreat at Ananda Ashram to teach the practices of Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga and is a featured speaker and presenter in prestigious international conferences and symposiums. In 2024, Dr. Bhavanani and Dr. Biagi were invited by Rajiv Mehrotra and Meenakshi Gopinath of the Foundation for Universal Understanding of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi to offer a two-day series of seminars on Nada Yoga, Healing Through Sacred Sound.
