Cristina Villa received her doctorate in Italian from the University of California, Los Angeles, her Master’s degree in Italian from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Master’s in Body and Meditation in Asian Traditions and Yoga Studies from the University Ca’ Foscari in Venice, Italy. She holds a Master’s Degree in German and English literature and Film Studies from the University of Bergamo, Italy. Cristina Villa taught in such universities in the United States as USC, UCLA, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in American University in Florence, Italy as University of California EAP and CET Program- Cornell University, Vanderbilt University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently teaching in Florence for Richmond University, Syracuse University and the Lorenzo de’ Medici International Institutes. In all her career, she has been teaching Italian and Mediterranean Food History, Italian and International Film, Italian and Comparative Literature, Italian Language, and Yoga Philosophy and Practice courses. She coordinates a USC Gerontology program in Genoa, Italy about “Longevity and the Mediterranean Diet” and she both coordinates and teaches a USC Gerontology program in Florence about “Food, Culture, Disease, and Longevity in Italy and the Mediterranean”. Her research focuses on history, memory, trauma, and the Holocaust, and she has published numerous articles on the topic. Her main interests are European cinema, Holocaust studies, twentieth-century Italian and European literature, migrant literature and cinema, and food history, food and art, and food and longevity. She is also a yoga and meditation teacher, trained in the United States, India, and Italy.
